CiViQ members present the project at EPIC Industrial Quantum Photonics Technology Summit in Barcelona

On June 5 and 6, ICFO hosted the  EPIC Industrial Quantum Photonics Technology Summit, bringing together companies that will constitute the supply chain for the commercialization of new products that are the result of R&D initiatives of today’s quantum revolution.

According to the EU’s Quantum Flagship, as well as many other initiatives worldwide in Quantum technologies, the second quantum revolution is expected to introduce paradigm shifts in the fields of quantum communication, quantum simulation, quantum computing and quantum sensing and metrology. In line with these areas, the EPIC Industrial Quantum Photonics Technology Summit aimed to prepare the supply chain for related product ranges.

At this industry oriented event centered on Quantum Technologies, Valerio Pruneri, coordinator of the CiViQ project and researcher at ICFO, and Víctor López, partner of CiViQ at Telefonica, presented the CiViQ project to the audience.

Pruneri was the first one to present and give an overview of the project, its mission, its goals, its consortium members and the achievements it expects to attain. He emphasized at all times that the market is growing, which signifies that it is a great opportunity to bring and integrate Quantum Key Distribution technology into current classical telecommunication networks to provide end-users with 100% secure communications.

Right after Pruneri’s presentation, Victor López offered a talk about the views and perspectives that a network operator has towards QKD technologies. He presented different user cases and needs and explained the telecommunication operator’s involvement in the project.
